POLICY ADVOCACY

Waste-Free Advocates is working hard to ensure that Oregon has the best possible policies to reduce consumption and waste. We do this by providing input to city, county, region, and state advisory committees and to elected officials and staff. We also monitor proposed legislation and regulations, and we let you know when writing or calling your elected official or a government agency could be helpful in pushing forward favorable policy.

Historically, Waste-Free Advocates has supported Oregon’s Plastic Pollution and Recycling Modernization Act (SB 582) passed in 2020, Bottle Bill Expansion (SB 707) passed in 2007, and E-waste legislation (HB2626) passed in 2007. Currently, we are monitoring the progress on Oregon’s proposed Right to Repair legislation and updates to the Oregon Department of Agriculture Code regarding the use of reusable containers at grocery stores.
